Art and Architecture: Unique works of Frank Lloyd wright Fri, May 18, 2018 — 8:00AM to 8:00PM
Travel with the Madison Club to Chicago and the surrounding area for a unique and comprehensive look into the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and his contemporaries. The majority of our time will be spent in Oak Park, where Wright founded his architectural practice and pioneered his distinctive style.
Our trip to Chicago will include:
Wright Plus Housewalk (Oak Park, Illinois):
The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust’s internationally-renowned annual house walk features rare interior tours of private homes and public buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and his peers. Enjoy tours of spectacular residences in Oak Park and learn about their history and architecture. This tour is only offered one day per year and featured homes change annually. This year’s tour includes seven private homes as well as access to several public buildings including Unity Temple, which just underwent a magnificent restoration. This is an all-day experience on Saturday.
Art Institute of Chicago Tour:
Our group will explore the Art Institute of Chicago with
a museum educator, highlighting furniture, architectural elements and home décor designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and other Prairie style architects. Discover rare works in the Art Institute’s collection and learn more about Wright’s methodology.
Some free time will be included in our itinerary to allow participants the opportunity to shop, explore and have dinner at their choice of restaurant (suggestions will be provided). Trip includes roundtrip coach bus transportation (departing early Friday morning and returning Saturday evening), deluxe overnight accommodations at the University Club of Chicago, all tour admission fees, lunch on Saturday, as well as beverages and snacks en route. Price per person is $495, based on double occupancy. This trip is limited to 18 participants.
Please note that a substantial amount of walking and standing is anticipated, especially on Saturday. As the Saturday tour features private homes, most sites are not anticipated to be handicap-accessible. The Saturday tour will commence regardless of weather.
